1 Thessalonians 1

(1) Paul and Silvanus and Timothy, to the assembly of the Thessalonians in God the Father and lord Jesus Christ: grace to you and peace.

(2) We give thanks to God always for all of you, making mention of you in our prayers unceasingly, (3) remembering your work of faith and toil of love and endurance of hope in our lord Jesus Christ, before our God and Father, (4) knowing, brothers beloved by God, your election: (5) because our glad-tidings did not come to be to you in word only, but also in power and in holy spirit and in much assurance, just as you know what kind of men we became among you for your sake. (6) And you became imitators of us and of the lord, having received the word in much affliction with joy of holy spirit, (7) so that you became a type to all the believers in Macedonia and in Achaia.

(8) For from you the word of the lord has sounded forth — not only in Macedonia and Achaia, but in every place your faith toward God has gone out, so that we have no need to say anything. (9) For they themselves report about us what kind of entrance we had to you, and how you turned to God from the idols, to serve a living and true God, (10) and to wait for His son from the heavens, whom He raised from the dead — Jesus, the one rescuing us from the coming wrath.

1 Thessalonians 2

(1) For you yourselves know, brothers, that our entrance toward you was not empty, (2) but having suffered before and having been insulted in Philippi, just as you know, we spoke boldly in our God to speak to you the glad-tidings of God with much struggle. (3) For our exhortation was not from error, nor from impurity, nor in deceit; (4) but just as we have been approved by God to be entrusted with the glad-tidings, so we speak, not as pleasing men, but God, who tests our hearts. (5) For neither at any time did we come with a word of flattery, just as you know, nor with a pretext of greed — God is witness — (6) nor seeking glory from men, neither from you nor from others, (7) though we were able to be a burden as apostles of Christ. But we became infants in your midst, as a nurse cherishes her own children. (8) Thus, longing for you, we were pleased to impart to you not only the glad-tidings of God, but also our own lives, because you became beloved to us. (9) For you remember, brothers, our toil and labor: working night and day so as not to burden any of you, we proclaimed to you the glad-tidings of God. (10) You are witnesses, and God also, how holily and righteously and blamelessly we conducted ourselves toward you, the ones believing. (11) Just as you know how, as a father his own children, (12) we exhorted each one of you and consoled and testified, that you walk worthily of God, the one calling you into His own kingdom and glory.

(13) And because of this we also give thanks to God unceasingly: when you received from us the word of hearing — the word of God — you accepted it not as a word of men, but, just as it truly is, a word of God, which also is at work in you who believe. (14) For you became imitators, brothers, of the assemblies of God that are in Judea in Christ Jesus, because you suffered the same things, you also, from your own countrymen, just as they also did from the Judeans, (15) who killed the lord Jesus and the prophets and drove us out, and are not pleasing to God, and are opposing all men, (16) hindering us from speaking to the nations so that they might be saved, to fill up their sins always. But the wrath has come upon them to the end.

(17) But we, brothers, having been orphaned from you for a season of an hour — in face, not in heart — were all the more eager to see your face with much desire. (18) Because we wanted to come to you — I, Paul, once and twice — and the Adversary hindered us. (19) For what is our hope or joy or crown of boasting? Is it not even you, before our lord Jesus at his arrival? (20) For you are our glory and joy.

1 Thessalonians 3

(1) Therefore, no longer enduring, we were pleased to be left in Athens alone, (2) and we sent Timothy, our brother and fellow-worker of God in the glad-tidings of the Christ, to establish you and to exhort on behalf of your faith, (3) so that no one would be shaken in these afflictions. For you yourselves know that we are appointed for this. (4) For even when we were with you, we were telling you beforehand that we are about to be afflicted, just as it also came to be, and you know. (5) Because of this, I also, no longer enduring, sent to know your faith, lest somehow the one tempting tempted you and our toil might be in vain.

(6) But now Timothy came to us from you and brought us the good news of your faith and love, and that you always have good remembrance of us, longing to see us, just as we also long to see you — (7) because of this we were comforted, brothers, over you in all our distress and affliction, through your faith. (8) Because now we live, if you stand in the lord. (9) For what thanksgiving are we able to repay to God concerning you, for all the joy with which we rejoice because of you before our God — (10) night and day, exceedingly abundantly, beseeching to see your face and to restore the lacks of your faith?

(11) Now may He Himself, our God and Father, and our lord Jesus, direct our way to you. (12) And may the lord cause you to increase and abound in love toward one another and toward all, just as we also do toward you, (13) to establish your hearts blameless in holiness before our God and Father, at the arrival of our lord Jesus with all his holy ones. Amen.

1 Thessalonians 4

(1) Finally, therefore, brothers, we ask and exhort you in the lord Jesus, that, just as you received from us how you must walk and please God — just as you also do walk — you would abound more. (2) For you know what commands we gave you through the lord Jesus. (3) For this is the will of God — your consecration: that you keep yourselves from sexual immorality, (4) that each of you know to acquire his own vessel in consecration and honor, (5) not in passion of desire, just as also the nations who do not know God, (6) that no one overstep and defraud his brother in the matter, because the Lord is an avenger concerning all these things, just as we also told you before and solemnly testified. (7) For God did not call us for impurity, but in consecration. (8) Therefore the one rejecting this does not reject a man, but God, the one who also gives His holy spirit to you.

(9) But concerning brotherly love, you have no need for me to write to you, for you yourselves are taught by God to love one another. (10) For you also do this to all the brothers in all Macedonia. But we exhort you, brothers, to abound more, (11) and to be ambitious to be quiet, to mind your own affairs, and to work with your own hands, just as we commanded you, (12) so that you walk becomingly before those outside and have need of nothing.

(13) But we do not wish you to be ignorant, brothers, concerning the ones sleeping, so that you may not grieve, just as also the rest who have no hope. (14) For if we believe that Jesus died and rose, so also God will bring with him, through Jesus, the ones having fallen asleep. (15) For this we say to you in a word of the lord: that we, the living ones remaining for the arrival of the lord, will by no means precede the ones having fallen asleep. (16) For the lord himself will descend from heaven with a shout, with a voice of an archangel, and with a trumpet of God, and the dead in Christ will be raised first. (17) Then we, the living ones remaining, together with them, will be snatched away in clouds to a meeting of the lord in the air, and thus we will always be with the lord. (18) So comfort one another with these words.

1 Thessalonians 5

(1) But concerning the times and the seasons, brothers, you have no need for anything to be written to you. (2) For you yourselves know accurately that the day of the lord comes like a thief in the night. (3) When they say, “Peace and security,” then sudden destruction comes upon them, just as the birth-pain upon the one having a child in the womb, and they shall by no means escape. (4) But you, brothers, are not in darkness, so that the day would overtake you like a thief. (5) For you are all sons of light and sons of day; we are not of night nor of darkness. (6) So then let us not sleep, as the rest do, but let us be watchful and sober. (7) For the ones sleeping sleep at night, and the ones getting drunk are drunk at night. (8) But we, being of the day, let us be sober, having put on a breastplate of faith and love, and a helmet — hope of salvation. (9) Because God did not appoint us for wrath, but for obtaining salvation through our lord Jesus Christ, (10) who died for us, so that whether we are watchful or we sleep, we may live together with him. (11) Therefore comfort one another and build up one another, just as you also do.

(12) But we ask you, brothers, to recognize the ones toiling among you and leading you in the lord and admonishing you, (13) and to regard them exceedingly abundantly in love, because of their work; be at peace among yourselves. (14) And we exhort you, brothers: admonish the disorderly, console the fainthearted, hold fast to the weak, be patient toward all. (15) See that no one repays evil for evil to anyone, but always pursue the good, both toward one another and toward all. (16) Rejoice always; (17) pray unceasingly; (18) in everything give thanks — for this is the will of God in Christ Jesus for you. (19) Do not quench the spirit; (20) do not despise prophecies; (21) but test all things; hold fast to the good; (22) keep away from every form of evil.

(23) Now may the God of peace Himself consecrate you entirely, and may your whole spirit and soul and body be kept blameless at the arrival of our lord Jesus Christ. (24) Faithful is the one calling you, who will also do it.

(25) Brothers, pray also for us. (26) Greet all the brothers with a holy kiss. (27) I adjure you by the lord that this letter be read to all the brothers. (28) The grace of our lord Jesus Christ be with you.
